This recognition certifies that the characteristics, quality, or reputation of a product are exclusively due to specific geographical, cultural, and natural factors of the region it originates from.
The Designation of Origin for Tequila (DOT) guarantees the authenticity of this iconic Mexican beverage. Since its declaration on December 9, 1974, it has become Mexico’s first Designation of Origin. The DOT covers 181 municipalities in Jalisco, Michoacán, Guanajuato, Nayarit, and Tamaulipas, regulated by intellectual property laws. Tequila reflects the cultural and natural legacy of these regions, produced under strict standards that ensure its quality and deep roots.

These recognitions, when properly managed, contribute to competitiveness and the preservation of the country’s cultural and natural heritage.
